at two things

- just how complex our Mokes and Minis are compared to front engined, rear wheel drive leaf spring cars of the same era. The amount of gubbins per square inch in the front suspension of a mini never fails to amaze me.

- how easy some of the dreaded jobs are on Mokes/Minis.. Just finished one side of front bearing replacement. Nice and easy. Other cars I have had the bearing replacement has been a nightmere - but on this little beastie an hour a side - lovely. Thought I would do the ball joints while I was at - out in 10mins

don't you just love that... I sometimes help my mechanic mate, one day he gave up trying to get the little clips off the injectors on a 7 series BMW - I got them eventually - what a ning nong of a job!!

sometimes you get people who "used to have a mini", and they say "aren't they pricks to work on" - compared to an EH holden, sure they are, compared to any modern car, no way - they're a piece of piss!

Too right - other weekend I resealed the rocker covers on the Subaru - half a day job. Had to pull all the plumbing and other junk off or out of the way to get at them - twice  give me a Mini any day - the rocker cover gasket would have taken 5 minutes and not $32 each either

On the flipside, just about any job i have to do in/near the engine bay in my mini, rather than squeezing about in there... its 'engine out'.

If I did things that way I'd probably end up selling my motor and pushing the mini around.

My record for engine out & gearbox off is 53 minutes, mind you i was on a mission to have it back in the car & running for a event the next day, mission completed.

Hay, it's not about the car, it's not about the venue, it's about the people that come here. Peter Dwyer, Mayor of Hay NSW.
