Skssgn,,, you probably have --->either no thermostat at all,,, or it`s stuck open ,,, or your temp gauge under reads ( &/or all of the above)
On the engines that i build i do block off the original bypass hose but i do fit another one from the back of the cyl head (where the heater take off outlet is) & fit a pipe into the top tank of the radiator for the other end of it. It does take a little extra time to warm up (not much tho) but works a treat in helping to even out the distribution of heat across the length of the cyl head & also helps cool things down more efficiently/effectively in stop/start traffic jam situations when pretty much stationary for ages.
if you like your heater fitted & working still too, then run that new bypass hose through the heater (no heater tap tho) & back to the radiator top tank fitting.
Radiator shops should only charge about $5-$10 to fit the pipe
