Post subject: | Mini Paint Colours |
Can anyone tell me if the colours that were offered for each year that the Mini was made were available in the next and following years range. i.e. were the colours that were available in 1965 still available in 1968? What I am trying to get at is Scooby was supposed to be a 68 but it's original colour was ceramic green which came out in 65, according to the ozcooper website paint codes, - was ceramic green still available in 68? Cheers, Gig |

http://www.ozcooper.com.au/paint_codes.htm I put the link up for others to see. To me it looks like it was only in 65 and by 68 they wouldn't have been supplying it as a choice of colour. Are you trying to work out what year your car is? What year did they change to recessed wiper holes, I noticed yours aren't. I looked at your thread of all your work, absolutely brilliant! |

http://www.elevenhundred.com/colours.php May well be for Morries, but the colour info can safely be applied to Minis of the same era too. ceramic green = 65 I have heard a couple of stories where people took a roundy to be registered, and the inspector said "What year?". The owners just said anything they thought suited...... and a 65 becomes a 68... ![]() |

I have found a couple of mini's in the 850 register being a colour that supposedly wasn't done that year and I also know of one cooper s (with full history) which was painted a colour 2 years out of synch as a special order . The factory would still have had access to the paint for warranty purposes and I'm sure if someone asked for a few mini's to be painted in a certain colour to suit their buisiness or one on a whim they would probably have done it . |

I have heard of special order Minis in PINK, of both the round and square varities. You don't see that colour on any chart ![]() |

As far as I know Ceramic Green was 1965 only - that's the colour of mine originally and it is an early 65 model. What is the body number? Should be able to identify it that way. I've noticed that often black isn't listed on the colour charts. Yet Minis did come that colour from the factory. |

Here you go, ![]() Don't know how to tell the age from the number myself. Gig |

That puts it at around 8/67 according to my records. So ceramic green must have been used later than 65. |

So then could it have been built then(67) but registered early 68 to become a 68 car? How do you actually determine the year from the body number? |

I have a copy of the Mini Identification Guide from a few years ago which gives production dates of Australian Minis based on the ID numbers. Other than that, the build date is stamped on the wiper motor, coil, generator, boot handle etc which can give an idea of when it was made. 8/67 is the date of delivery to the dealer, but certainly it could have been first registered in 68. |
