Have another look at them, they aren't normal tin master cylinders, they're nut-top master cylinders. They haven't been used since 1961 and are almost impossible to get, even in rusty condition. The caps on the top are metal, rather than plastic and they corrode badly so even the caps alone are worth about what you'd pay for a later metal master cylinder.

Restoring early minis to factory condition is a fascinating and potentially very expensive hobby.

btw, the seller is Mark Forster, owner of the mk1 performance conversion website and chief early mini nerd.

I'd never seen those type before!

The later tin ones are easy to get second hand and affordable brand new.

In fact I've even found Mini style tin clutch cylinders (the common type, not the one in the ebay add) on early (Lockheed/AP) 80s SAABs at wreckers, along with larger version of Lucas Rover Mini wiper Motors.

:lol: i've got a few sets sitting in the back of my sisters 850, waiting to have a kit put through them, not rusty at all.
i think i might put them up on uk ebay, a couple sets at 587 pounds each should fund my 16valve project well :lol:

Do it. It looks like demand definitely outstrips supply. Those particular ones are replated and fully rebuilt, but I recently watched a rusty one sell for over $250 and two caps went for about $120. A cap sold in Australia for about $65 recently. I paid $45 for a cap from the UK.
