Hello everyone,
I had hijacked another thread but thought I should start my own, so here goes.

My car won't start, and heres what I have trouble shooted it down too, an ignition problem;
- Coil is seeing Battery voltage and has a good ground
-all ignition leads and coil has correct resistance
but,
-there is no spark coming from the plugs or from the coil
-It is electronic ignition, I am guessing an ignitor kit put in by the PO (lucas 45D dizzy)

So my questions;
1 - Is it likely that the electronic module has been destroyed? (i did some re wiring recently)

2 - If so can I convert back to points?

and 3 - If so what do i need? (assuming its an ignitor kit)

Any replies would be greatly appreciated

I know a bit about these ignitors, I ran one for years.
Two ways to kill them are:
1. turn ignition on and leave for 30 secs or more.
2. get the polarity wrong when hooking them onto the coil.

To convert it back, all you need is a set of points to suit a 45D.

If you need to buy a new ignitor, I'd forget buying one here- they are way too expensive. :x
I got mine from http://www.vintageperformance.com/retro ... /lucas.htm
Post cost me US$6.95 and I had it in a week.

Hmm, sounds like I've killed it then I do leave the ignition on for a while before starting to get the fuel to the carby, the fuel likes to drain back to the tank when its not running it seems.
Cheers for that,
looks like ill be ordering some new points then,

If you buy another ignitor get an Ignitor II, they don't have this problem. :wink:

Yer will do, it appears the ignitor II gives a higher voltage spark too,
But if I do go electronic again i wouldn't mind one of those 123 ignition ones with the switchable advance curves, but there a little out of my price range right now...

Anyway thanks Dr mini next time ive got a problem ill just PM you :lol:

I must have an ignitor II then, because I've left my ignition on for extended periods of time and it never broke!

I recently bought a no-name brand electric ignition kit for my 43D (similar to Ignitor, just heaps cheaper), I'll be wary of leaving the ignition on. Then again, my Ignitor for the 29D should fit into the 43D anyway, GL19V point sets do.

Hold on, though. Have you tried actualy sticking a spark plug into the HT lead from the coil, and rocking the car to see whether it sparks against a head stud (or any good earth). Coz if as you say there is no spark from the coil, then it could very well be the coil that has died.
