how do you get all the paint of rims becasue i want to spray them and they have all old paint on them crackin off in places how would i get this off quickly not sand blasting

You could use a paint stripper. But thats a bit messy and nasty chemicals. Just paste it on, wrap up the rims, keep them in a cool spot. hopefully the paint will just peel off. may take a few goes at it tho

You could do the effort yourself and use a wire wheel.
Or get them Bead/Sand/Soda blasted but please ask them not touch the inside rim where the tyre connects

There are two basic chemicals [from any hardware] for paint and rust removal.
1 caustic soda mix up solution as per directions and place item in solution. this will remove paint, grease, oil and you can wash off with water.[this is also good for cleaning cylinder heads--removes carbon deposits]
2 hydro chloric acid mix with water[ ADD ACID TO WATER] 5 parts water to 1 part acid. immerse item. this will remove rust but will not attack parent metal. remove and wash off with sodium bi- carb[baking soda]

If you mix caustic soda and hydro chloric acid the chemicals turn into salt water.[harmless]

Remember these chemicals can cause harm if not handled correctly,[ wear chemical gloves and goggles] but are cheaper than most paint striper.

Remember that the tyre bead needs a roughened surface to grip the tyre bead on the inside of the rim

All performance Superlites and other aftermarket wheels I have seen are machined and very smooth.

I used to use caustic oven cleaner as a paint stripper, worked quite well. Not sure if you can still get it.

Are the wheels alloy or steel? I would advise against sand blasting alloy wheels. Unless you like the sand-cast look.

they are just standard mini rims.....not the clubman ones.....some have had more then one coat of paint and is cracking off in places. it looks horrible and i wont to get it off and respray them but not go to the cost of sand blasting them they quoted me 100 bux for the 5 so 20 bux each i think this is a bot steep...and im tryin to save for my engine and gear box so i dont wont to spend 100 bux on just getting them blasted? dad said chuck petrol on them then light????what ya reckon of this idea

I'd use the Anton (GT) method-
go to Supercrap, buy a sand blast nozzle, buy or borrow a compressor and dry sand, do it on your lawn. Hose it in when finished.

go work for 10 hours, and pay for the blasting, its much easier/cleaner/simpler and less painfull than buggering about with paint stripper.

i do almost everything myself, but getting paint of wheels just sounds plain boaring, dirty and time consuming.

$100 for 5 Wheels..that is a good price and considering it will only take a day and you will be clean. I spend 120 for 4 Alloy wheels to be blasted and they were perfect with no mucking around which I would do it again in a heart beat.
Just consider what I do..Polish Alloy wheels..Imagin how dirty I am at the moment and how long it takes me.
Spend the $100 you will be appy with your result
