i knowmost morris mini's came with the green engine ( i think earlier ones were darker than ater ones), and "leyland" mini's came with thew engine painted black. Correct me if im wrong? But what other colours did miniengines come in from the factory....... i heard they came in blue - what did this come from? any other colours? Thans Brenton |

Black engines - commonly imported from USA with no number (if I recall correctly) I have seen red and blue but not sure where they came from either? ![]() |

I think rover painted most of the mini engines yellow if 998s or red of 1275s. |

Later Leyland engines were all black. Early roundnose engines were a darker green, later engines were a lighter green (Cooper S for eg), Mini K 1100 was a gold colour. I don't think any Australian cars came with a blue engine. |

i asked because my GT motor is blue and was tryin to work out if any motors came out blue becasue i thought it should be green. -- i cant find any green colour underneath the blue. maybe my motor could have been painted the wrong colour at the factory by accident with the early clubman motors??? that or somebody has had it out at some stage and painted it blue |

All of the earlier brochures have nice colour shots of the engine bay but none of the clubman ones do , I'll see what's in the various magazines though . I always thought there was a blue for the 1098 as well , if it wasn't factory then someones (repco , gem etc) reco'd a lot of them and used the colour to designate their work . |

hey Brenton..... your GT motor doesn't have a mechanical fuel pump bolted to the back of it, does it? If so, start to worry..... |

This is probably why all later engines were painted black - to avoid confusion amongst the workers ![]() |
