Mucking about with my brakes i'm just about to put back together and wondering whether i should be using the mini steering arms from the drum setup or the metro disc steering arms.

Mini ones, and if you're using metro uprights you'll need to drill the holes in the steering arms out to the metro metric bolt hole size. It's hardly more than a scrape off the inside, no big deal.
