Hi, i was driving today and say a mini mayfair in a car yard today. It's a 1990, the guy at the yaard give me the price and told me it's sold with roadworty certificate. The yard was obvoiusly importing Japanese car
(Yard full of Soarer and alike). I was under the impression that you cannot register imported car that are post 1987? Also, do you need to complied them. Does this like dodgy to you. And the price is very good.

You can't import card from 1989 onwards.
Take a gander in the boot, should be a green compliance plate
with the vin number, importer/complier, and approval number, etc.
:D

SA cars don't have compliance plates.

No plate on my car (its an 88 regardless), but I have the paperwork at home. As long as your car is rego'ed all is fine.

now they have a little sticker to stick on the window.
most people wouldn't know the year of them... let alone the rules about them

Yeah I was having a whinge about people telling me my 1997 Rover couldn't be from 1997, sure it's not from the 60's. Also about tyre kickers ahhhhhhh

I thought the imports had to have the green plate in the boot? Both mine do. And yes I also knew after 1989 you couldn't import for road use anymore.

What's the price and if it's in good condition, snap it up. You can never have too many Mini's, apart from in my case. Please someone buy my car :D

Lurker I'd buy yours if i didn't have the money tied up.
90's Rover's are NOT going to be in Australia for a long while yet.
green plates are for eastern states, we haven't caught up yet(but we used to have them). gets me in trouble when we send cars to QLD

You'd buy it Steve, but it's white :D

IT's a good little car, I just want something that is a bit normal now. I'm keeping the Black Rover and the Moke, hopefully when I sell this I'll buy a 998 off you to put in the Moke as she's a bit smokey :?

I thought they had to have the green plates, I got the black Mini in Sydney, I didn't get any paper work, just the green plate in the boot. Lucky that was enough.

This Rover sounds OK if it's legit

If it's got proper Vic Rego is should not be an issue, as it probably came in under the old 15yo system, just before the change of rules. If it's a dodgy VIN swap, walk away.

BTW Lurker, I'd love to buy your car too. I prefer the Mayfair look over the Cooper style with the bonnet stripes. And I like white Minis! But having just upgraded to a larger house I've got no cash and no scope for a car loan. Even if I flogged the Moke and my daily car I'm not gonna get anywhere near it. :(
