Just need a little advice on replacing/upgrading my exhaust system. My current system is way too loud and the exhaust from the LCB back needs replacing.

My current setup is as follows:

Road Car - Driven on weekends
Engine - 1293
Head - 12G940 ported
Carb - HIF44
Cam - not sure but big
LCB - Large bore (2" OD collector)
Exhaust - 2" OD pipe and unknown mufler

I was thinking of fitting an RC40 twin box system which judging by previous posts seems pretty popular but am not sure if it will fit or be suitable on my LCB. Would the medium bore Maniflow LCB be more suitable? Any recomendations would be appreciated.

Anyone?

Surely someone knows if the RC40 system which I believe is 1.75" OD would be ok with my LCB which is 1.875" ID. Obviously the RC40 pipe would need to be flared for a snug fit or is this just wrong and I should get a medium bore LCB?

Thanks

I have no idea what brand/manufacturer my muffler is, my engine is about the same specs as yours but I've got a 2.25" system back to the muffler - it matches the bore of the extractors. I got friendly with the exhaust bloke and told him what I wanted out of the car, "I want it to flow as well as possible, and I want it quiet as possible" - he showed me the same muffler off the shelf after he fitted it, if you look through it, you can see a semicircle of daylight at the other end. I wouldn't call it quiet though.... when I pulled up at the mini experience launch after idling in, a bloke came up to me and said "do you have something special under the bonnet of this?" I said "nah, just a warm 1275", he said "oh, I thought it sounded like a rotary" :!:

moral is, go to a small exhaust shop who look like they know what they're doing when it comes to old performance cars and tell them what you want

well, i believe most aftermarket mini mufflers are designed for performance over quietness.

My mate has a baffle muffler on his mini, and it didn't hurt performance as much as i thought it would.. and very quiet for a mini.

I had a 2" pipe running from LCB's to a sports muffler with a 3.5"tip , after getting pulled over by the cops for noise (ok, so it set every car alarm off as I went by  ) I had to put an extra hotdog in to drop the noise a bit, It's still loud just doesn't set off alarms now

Mine runs really well on the open road but is a little lumpy in traffic. Lacks a liitle low down but thats mainly due to the cam and the being needle not quite right yet. Its a bit rich down low.

Yeah mine sets off car alarms too
