Considering upgrading the 850s headlights to H4s, but i can't be arsed with an alternaotor conversion. does the gennie pump enough amps to run 50/55W H4s without going pop in a few minutes or the lights being no brighter than the current tungstens? cheers michael |

They won't go pop even if the battery does go flat, but you will need to use the standard 60/55 watt bulbs and not really consider anything bigger than this. Current draw will be the same as what you have now and will be fine if the charging system is giving you no grief at the moment. Well worth the effort of changing the lights over, and if you don't ask for more than that, then the generator can continue doing what it has been doing for the last 40 years. Go the relay option however if you can stretch your efforts, it will multiply the resulting gains again. |

I ran H4s with the standard generator and no relay for years, never had a problem. But I did have to turn the radio and heater off at night, going by what my Volt guage was telling me - but that was Lucas volts not real volts. I recently converted to an alternator as the generator was starting to charge low and I couldn't be arsed rebuilding it. |
