Hi All,
On Sunday I went to the anual All British Day here in Brisbane at Tennerson with the intention of displaying my Cooper S. On arrival I was asked for $15 entry fee for the privalage, keeping in mind that this was not a fee to enter a competition but a fee to display a car.
The same organisers then charge others a fee to come and look at the displayed cars. Talk about two bites at the cherry!
Why should I pay a fee to display my car, which has cost me a small fortune, only to have someone else charge others to look and proffit from it?
I was so outraged that I turned around and went home.

1. Is this happening in the southern states?
2. Do others feel the same?

Ummmmm...... You obviously havnt entered many car shows in your time?

Common place at all the car shows ive been in.

Its no different to the fact that when my car was featured in Hot 4's Magazine, i did not get paid to supply them with a vehicle that they were able to profit from as it filled some pages of there magazine.

Its just the way it is.

Yes it does happen increasingly in other states. Your best recourse is to sit down and calmly and rationally write a letter to the organisers stating a case, on behalf of exhibitors, to reconsider their position. After all you would have spend some money elsewhere such as hot dogs, drinks etc. Most of those stalls are run by non profit organisations or you should at least support those who are non profit. The exception to the rule is where the addmission fees are being directly donated to charities or other worthy causes. Mike

Sounds the norm for every show I have been to. Sometimes $2 more likely $15, and yes also charge the punters for having a look.

Was there mention of a charity perhaps? Entry to show your car is usually put towards trophies and whatever for winners. Entry to look usually covers costs of staging an event. That's my $0.02

Don't forget the giveaways at MATM! I asked to have the cost reduced, but then with the extra prizes etc. I thought, nah it's fine. We still get many dickheads trying to get in for free argueing and swearing at us because "last year they let us in for free", then tell them to leave they try and come in anyways. OK my rants over. But I think a cost to enter is fine, jsut I wouldn't pay a lot, $15 is my max. Bay To Birdwood,as I recall is $40 or $50 if you want to enter concourse. PS. Birdwood Musuem charges Hotbricks a set fee per car parked inside (appart from tow vehicles if cars are trailer queens. )

Same shite as last year, prolly minus a few that broke down on the way there. I keep telling myself not to go but I also keep telling myself I might spy something I haven't seen yet. The later is yet to happen.

I guess it would depend on what sort of costs they are incuring, without knowing that it' a bit hard to say if it's unreasonable

That's what happens here too but usually I find that it gets donated more often than not so it doesn't worry me.

Sounds like what happened down here once when two "entrepreneurs" were asked to stage a car show that had been run successfully by volunteers for years. The Canberra "All British" does not look like it has been affected...although the ACT Council of Car Clubs usually has a bucket for a gold coin donation for the councils charities from each car (but its not really "enforced") Terribly British Day Where: Lawns of Old Parliament House, Canberra ACT When: 02-Dec-07 09:00 AM until 02-Dec-07 03:00 PM Details: The revamped Terribly British Day for lovers and admirers of all the British marques will be held on Sunday 2 December 2007 on the lawns near Old Parliament House. An honoured guest (yet to named) will be invited to attend the display and select the best club display - won last year by the MG Car Club of Canberra. There is also a trophy for the best presented vehicle. The day is organised by the Jaguar Drivers Club of Canberra with assistance from other British Marque clubs. The day is supported by NRMA Vintage, Veteran and Classic Insurance.
