I am seriously looking at a 1973 Scarlet O'Hara' Leyland MINI S. 998 cc for $600. It dose need restoring but is all their. I had a look at it this arvo and as far as I can tell it needs new
drives side front guard, drivers door, passangers hinge panel, passanger sill, passanger front floor pan, front & rear beavers/aprons and some surface rust in some areas. Also the interior is rooted with the exception of the hood lining and it would also need new rubbers, bushes, bearings etc etc.
If I do go ahead and get it what are they worth in origional (as accurate as possable) restored condtion? I guestamate aroung 5k to repair and paint the shell, 1-1.5k for the interior and rubbers, and another 2k on mechanical refeurb, total 8-9k (is it worth it?).
If I got the numbers could someone on here confirm it is all matching and correct?
This is'nt the car in question (no pics avaliable) but it is the same version in all ways except for mags and pin striping.

in a word no...
BUT, if you are doing it for yourself, and you intend on keeping it for 10 odd years, you should break even with all things being equal, BUT if your going to resto the car to sell for a profit a leyland mini S won't turn that around for you. You would need something a little rarer as your base. IE Copper S, GT, LS, Traveller, UTE, Austin etc etc.
Just my view.

If you want to do it, because you want the car and want it perfect then yes it is worth it, but not if you are doing it for the money.

To come clsoe to 8-9K, IMO it would need discs and a 1275. I would say a restored 850 would fetch 8-9K, (I'd still want a decent motor and brakes though if I wee to pay that much for a Mini)

I would second all that was said above and say that the greatest profit in a restoration comes in the form of self satisfaction.

In tens years time with a car still in mint condition you may make a financial profit.

From your description you have a fairly big big project in front of you. Do it for the enjoyment of doing it and knowing you have done it. Bit like bungee jumping really.

not saying that all the above people dont have a point, because they are all quite valid but without pictures its extremely hard to give an accurate decision, my first car was a stanard clubman 998S which i bought 4 $1000 and by the time i put it on the road drove it for a couple of months i sold it and made a fair decent profit, so it depends on ur availability of parts/labour and other associated costs. Just be extremely smart about the decision be honest with costing of wat needs to be done and go from there
but once again the people above have a very valid point, but it can be done, if u have the GOOD base for the intial purchase price
