A couple of weeks ago I put my Moke on historic club rego. Insurance must be obtained so I enquire with NRMA (as all my other cars, home etc is with them). Everything was going fine until I said it was a Moke :!:

NRMA will not insure a Moke - why?? They say because it's an open top car it is a high risk   If it was a regular Mini, no dramas.

Ring Shannons - they were very welcoming and had no problems with the Moke :P :P

Last time I had my Moke registered (2004) it was insured with them so it must be a recent ruling (they've probably realised they are in demand ...) . The only problem I had with them was they couldn't decide what it was , it wasn't a convertible according to their database , it was a 2 seat utility , except it's a 4 seat so they ended up calling it a twin cab utility :?: :?: :?: :?:

I noticed yesterday that Commonwealth Bank offer car insurance so I thought okay I'll try your online quote system for my daily hack Magna. Apparently they cannot offer me insurance as 'your optional accessories exceeds our acceptance limits'. That 'optional accessory' being the factory optioned air conditioning!

But is a Moke a higher risk than any other 'convertible' sports car??

I could get into an MG or Sprite as easily as I could a Moke :?

Ive got a few insurance quotes before on the internet and under the body style category is MOKE.
It's its own kind.

EDIT: First site I went to lists the body type as a 0 door soft top.

I had my Moke insured with RACV and all they would insure it for was $2500.00 @ $340.00 .. Same goes for the LS so I eneded up with Shannons that insured the Moke for $8000.00 @ $330.00..

The Moke is now sold but I have the LS insured with Shannons for $9500.00 @ $347.00

My Moke is insured with Suncorp (Qld) for "market value" which is Redbook I suppose. I'll swap to Shannons next renewal.
Camilla is with Shannons and the cover is heaps better for the same $

I know people go on and on about Shannons, but it seems like the hype is worthy.

I called on Tuesday for a quote. I'm 22, with no accident history and no speeding fines/loss of license etc. The car in question is an RA23 Celica, with a twin turbo straight six supra engine and gear box, hilux diff, Peugeot brakes (I know, it makes me feel dirty too ;)), and a host of other mods.

They not only welcomed me, but quoted only $626 for comprehensive cover and salvage rights, with an agreed value of $15,000. I nearly fell off my chair. I couldnt' believe it! And my excess isn't disgusting either.

I however, have crashed a car berfore.
Shannons are the most expensive people for me.
How's about a 2.5k premuim on a 5k car?

I gave shannons a ring and they said because of my accident history (3 prangs in 4+ years, only 1 being 50% my fault), fines, age (22 end of october) and the fact I drive the car daily they could'nt offer me insurance
They then said try "just cars" and they simply don't insure minis :x So I stuck with suncorp where my commodore is insured, both are insured for 4k each, I want to increase the mini up to 5 or 6k and drop the commodore down to the market value some time soon. May save some money on the commo preium

When I first got the mini, back in 2004 shannons wanted $1000 preium for a 4k car

My Moke is with Suncorp. They had no problems. I enquired with shannons for the 850, they were double the price with no extra perks in the cover and an insured value decrease of 2K.
