As in the title, should there be a seal where the pinion comes through the body at the firewall? I've just gotta paint the U bolts and the rack can go in. |

Yes there's a bit of foam goes in there. I used a bit of polyurethane foam 1/4" thick, just cut it out with scissors. |

If you buy a spindle of CD's or DVD's, you get a round foam type of thing on the top of the spindle, the size of a 20c piece and 1/4 inch thick. Even has the right size hole in the middle of it. PERFECT for what you need.

PERFECT for what you need. The spindle I have the disc is 1/8" thick  but there is TWO of them

Tou want some foam with body in there, not that soft CD crap.... it'll just soak up water, if it doesn't shrink and fall out...

The stuff in my CD spindle looks and feels like neoprene - like wet suit material - won't soak up anything
