I have just chopped the rear part of my rear subframe off. It was bent. how bad an idea was this? It Looks good, an if figure if its bent, it must put the subframe out of shape? anyone? |

i dont know if it was a bad idea, the only thing i can see going bad is when you weld the new section that it doesn't cause it to warp or exspand, making bolts harder to line up, |

Unless you weld some RHS or channel back in there, it will seriously reduce the car's torsional rigidity. I think. ![]() There again... maybe not, people do use rear beam axles and coilovers in race Minis. ![]() |

ye, well i was going to weld a piece of thick was 2" Box in there, im not woried about the warp factor, as if you look at the state of most rear subframes, they are generally poked ![]() hmmmmm, pics to come im thinking. |

Just hack the whole rear part off and fit some coilovers. |

not keen for coil-overs, dont want to gusset the rear shock mounts. im sure that rear part dosent add any streingth! |

no earthquakes this far north, landslips though! they are good benches, and are plentiful in my rented garage ![]() also, any tips for getting the front mounts off? looks like i need an adjustable angle grinder wrench (2 pin thing) ?so i can put new bushes in whatever frame i end up using? |

Dam are the bushes are rooted! the holes are oval, how the hell was this road legal! ![]() |
