Post subject:  Fibreglass Mini Shell?
When I was in high school a friend of mine's dad had a fibreglass kit Cooper S Mini. It was really neat, so I'm wondering if anyone knows where to find them, if they're even made anymore.

It would make finding a donor vehicle for my project a bit easier, as I wouldn't have to worry about rust quite as much, and I wouldn't be restricted to just original roundies, I could get a younger mini instead.


It could also be lighter, which is always good for an EV, and would be rust proof itself.


Anyone know where to find these? I think my google-fu has taken a dive lately, I haven't been able to find a few things.

I'm not aware of any being made in Australia but that doesn't mean it wasn't a very limited run by someone . Either that or it could have beeen a mini cord from Venezuela ( http://www.minimarcos.org.uk/altpics/cord/index.html ) , a Minus ( http://www.miniminus.co.uk/history.htm) from England , a Domino from England ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domino_(car) )or any of the other ones I can't remember at the moment , there were a few done over the years but I don't think anyone tried to sell them commercially here as our bodies didn't rust like the UK ones . The Australian produced mini kit cars were on the lines of the Fang , Pellandini sports and the Taylorspeed Jem .

Don't assume that it will be light because it is fibreglass. Lightweight fibreglass panels used for racing like bonnets and boot lids are usually quite floppy. When you get them up to the same stiffness as steel there isn't necessarily much of a difference. The full on race cars use a space frame which means the body panels don't contribute to the strength of the car and thus can be much lighter.

Hi all

The Pellandini has a full fiberglass monocoque ie no steel frame and no mini subframe front or rear, it has bonded in steel plates for mounting points. Daren
