| Post subject: | Funny noise when turning |
Hey! I get this weird sound when turning, my dad said it may be the shockers. I have a video on youtube that is processing illpost it later. Maybe someone knows the distinct sound, It isnt a grinding noise or a clunking like worn out cv joints, it sounds like squeaking...i cant explain it wait for the video. Any help greatly appreciated! |

no idea man.......its quite annoying, everytime i turn , usually when im going quite fast, not at slow speeds |

Maybe your driving around corners too fast. Fast enough to make the tyres squeal....Skinny tyres are easy to squeal!  I know from experience!!!
On a slightely more serious note, I don't think it's tyres rubbing becasue you say it's only at speed. I've found with wide wheels, and the car being too low, tyre rubb is only noticeable at low speed as it's about the only time you get full lock going on the car - Unless your crazy, but that's something else again! |

Have you looked at the wheel bearings? ie. lift the wheel off the ground and give the wheel a small shake to see if there is a rattle. If you have drums on the front, they may be rubbing their backplates if they are loose. |

hmm, it could be that your car is too low, and the wheels are rubbing when you are cornering at higher speeds because the car leans over more maybe take a picture or two so's we can see how low your car is sitting and where the wheel is in the arch? i have scraping with my rear left when i have a passenger, just havent gotten around to adjusting the hilos yet. |

Oh yeah, I've had squal noises from rear drum brakes due to being poorly adjusted (over adjsuted because one cylinder was partially siezed so proper adjustment couldn't be made, until I took them off and bought brand new ones.) I've never driven a Mini with front drum brakes so I have no idea, but worth a look! Jack the front up and spin the wheels (do one side at a time to be safe) listen for noises. And while you're at it, grab the top and bottem of the wheel and see if you can shake the wheel, it should feel solid and stiff. Maybe try getting someone to turn the steering wheel whilst the wheel is spun?? But remember be safe use jack and a jack stand, never just a jack. (Don't want to be reponsible for silly accidents!) Failling everything I've said and any else other's may suggest get someone to have a look. Morris Mania, or any other Mini place should be able to help you. |

Drum on bent backing plate perhaps ? Jack it up and put it on axel stands then take the wheeel off and look for wnaywhere the brake drum has been rubbing on the backing plate or any stones stuck anywhere . Also look in general around the wheel and tyre for any scrubbing marks and also on the CV boot clip . Check that the big nut on the end of the CV is tight too . It could be wheel bearings starting to go as well but try all the easy and obvious things first . |

stockie wheels and no flares etc
that is a fair bit lower than standard, but it looks okay to me, does it make any noises in a straight line or under brakes or anything? what about if you are in neutral rolling along, any rumbling? |
