i just love driving on the highway to the gold coast and watching the other cars pass me by... but seriously , what rev range is a good one for long haul trips. i just cruise on down taking my time.. not exactly like a grandma. but to some other road users,,,, close enough. the other problem and main reason is that the speedo just shat itself.....

The rev range that your car sits in depends on your diff ratio.

What is your diff ratio? For a 1000cc it should be 3.65 or 3.765 from the factory (unless someone has changed it). My car with a 3.765 diff sits on 4200rpm at 100k/h. I think there will be 200rpm (or so) differance for a 3.65 (ie. about 4000rpm).

Someone with a 3.65 might be able to tell you what their car sits on.

I know the good doc has a 3.65 diff and a tacho so just wait around until he see's this thread.

About 4,000 is around the 100 kmh mark in any of the minis. As said plus and minus a few rpm.

The engine is working fairly well at that rev range and as long as the oil pressure and the temperature are steady then it should be okay. 3,500 is a bit less and a bit less load on the engine but an awful lot of cars are going to zoom past.

Just watch the oil and the water levels each time you stop.

4,400 rpm is 110KMH in both our 1293 and 1360, (3.65 diffs) they run at that no problems. But they are modified, not stock.

In my pretty stock 998 we sat at around 3500 rpm (I think it was about 95km/hr, I'm not sure my speedo's a little optimistic) the whole way and didn't get past by too many cars and even overtook a few

I'd say keep an eye on your temp and definitely make sure you have your oil and water full before leaving, just in case.

Oh and also watch your fuel gauge.

Going by the receipt,,,, 3.44 diff...camshaft 104 wade.
thanks for comments. yeah the oil sits steady around the 50-60 mark. temp guage is being installed asap...this week. what should the temp guage sit around, say on a hot summers day.

Ours both sit around the middle of the Smiths C-H gauge. The 1360 a bit less at high speed- the Minimatic heater acts as an additional radiator.

80-90kph is a good cruising speed for minis, and the fuel economy is much better than at 100 or 110kph

My Cooper S is about 3,600 rpm at 110k's, but i like my XR6 better, 1,800rpm at 110k's in 6th gear, very nice

What size tyres?

I think your tacho might be incorrect by about 400rpm.

The Mini in your sig appears to have 12 inch wheels.

With 165/60/R12 tyres, 3.444 diff in top gear 110kph would be 3997rpm.

100kph would be 3634rpm.

Perhaps your actually doing 100kph?
