hi, after the hsc i wanna do a restoration on my mum's clubby and was wondering if there was any tips or secrets that would help me with this. I don't wanna do anything flash as she wants to sell it and get a roundie. any help is greatly appreciated, cheers robbie |

why not replace the clubby frontend with a roundie and while ur doing it ya could put mk1 tail lights in to....................just a suggestion is all |

The best tip i can give is: LABEL EVERYTHING,take heaps of pics, notes and do drawings. |

You don't need to label anything 
...... ..... .... ... .. . You just need to have lots of patience and wait for the Ausmini community to answer all your stupid questions because you didn't 
Or, be able to afford to purchase all new stuff because you've lost all those little bits you thought you didn't need

Nah, don't label anything. then it's like an awesome jigsaw puzzle which will give you tetanus. I like the game of "guess the bolt" which is a necessity when you get everything zinc plated in the one large bucket... And there's also the "what the hell is that?" challenge with all the little brackets. I love that game, it's the only reason I like to restore minis. |

| remind me of "850man" on here, dave can look at any bolt just laying on the floor and tell you exactly where it goes.
it helps to know a mini mechanic... |

It is only a Mini, it isn't hard. I never have to label anything, I know which bit goes where. I pulled apart my 1275LS about 8 years ago and I will get around to bolting it back together one day but remembering which bit goes where is not a problem.

yeah it's not too hard, all the bolts are generally the same tensile strength except for the inside engine bits, and then it's a case of finding the correct length and thread bolt for the task at hand. The pointed bolts go into the rear subframe front mounts, the coarse thread (unc) are for the engine alluminium parts etc etc. Self tappers are open season however, anything could go anywhere. They're always a bit harder to suss out. |

Zip-lock/seal plastic bags and thick texta is what you need. As you pull bits off you chuck the bolts into a bag and write on it what they are from eg "engine mounts". Like the others I didn't use bags years ago when rebuilding Minis but once I started doing engines like rotary's, where everything needs to go back into the same spot, I did. Daniel |
