Post subject:  My 13" wheels - some help please

Hey everyone

I have a set of 13 x 8 and 13 x 10's that I will be using on my project car, and I fitted them to one of my minis to see how they go and I will need to cut heaps out of the front guard and a panel.

I want to use the lowest profile tire I can, does anyone know how much to cut out to allow for suspension travel etc?

I also have a set of super, super phat flares to go over, how would I go about fitting them. I have a full fiber glass flip front, so I will be removing it every now and then, I was thinking of using motor bike panel screws maybe?

Thanks

Mafia,

I am not sure about the 13x8's, as they may have a different offset to the 13x7 Superheavies I have on mine (45mm negative offset).

Anyway, draw a line following the original guard shape 10mm from the original lip (lip, not flare!). Draw another line 20mm from the lip. So now you have two parallel lines 10mm apart.

Cut along the 10mm line, and then fold a 10mm lip at the 20mm line. So in effect, you have made the aperture 40mm wider, 20mm on each side. You know have enough space for 13x7's at least, and also a new 10mm lip to affix your flares too.

I dont think you can go much wider than this, as the lower door hinge reinforcing plate will be cut into and this isnt a good idea.

For fixing the flip front I would use Dzus fasteners:

Hope this helps (by the way, that's going to be mega-phat!!)

Cheers,
Tricky

It's going to look like the old scalextric clubmans with those wheels .

Have you checked to make sure you can get super low profile tyres in that width though ? [/img]

Thanks guys

that info will help me heaps.

shame the flip front is a morris shape, that little clubby is cool as

I can get them in slicks. It does not have to be super low either, depends on what I can get, i might have to narrow the wheels :(

the front ones should come out a little further when the discs are fitted.

the car in the pic is not what they are going on, btw.

thanks also for the links. great help
