someone has made a dash for my 850 today i had to replace the temp gauge and while it was off i much prefer the original style dash. im missing a few bits and pieces like the main part around the speedo, and the dash cards, i can do the dash cards. Does anyone have any pics of theres they could post? cheers. |

It's pretty basic but I'll put some pics up later . Mines the plain standard one with the white binacle , switch on the side for dash light and only the speedo . |

It's always amazed me why BMC put that dash light switch in their cars. They could have left it off & saved 50c and probably made less of a loss on each car ![]() |

Simple , that's so you can turn the lights on the speedo off so your girlfriend/wife/whoever doesn't know how fast you're hammering into the corners at ![]() ![]() ![]() Here's the pic's , front on , ![]() Right side showing speedo light switch , ![]() Left side showing parcel shelf light (the opaquegrommet type thing) and switch . These were interchangable of course between left and right hand drive . ![]() From behind , the speedo binacle is held in place by 4 (I think) bolts and captive nuts , you can see one of them in the top right . ![]() |

There's normally a vynil mat thing across the firewall in the enginebay but I'm not sure if all mini's (850's especially) got it or not . Some photo's of new 850's in the early 60's have them and some don't so I don't know for sure . There was no seperate cover for the back of the speedo itself though . |

I think its the same or as near as makes no difference (except concourse mayby) to the chrome trim for arround the roof on the vinyl roof-d cars. availabe in the uk, in a roll to do a roof for about 5 pounds or somthing silly. |

I don't know if you could bend the other stuff tight enough though , it's got to bend away from the open edge not sideways to it . |
