Post subject:  Rivetted rims

I think I recall rivetted rims being discussed, but I can't recall the detail. When were they replaced with the welded type? I have one spare rivetted type if anybody wants one.

Regards
Al

The riveted rims were the early wheels fitted to minis. They were indeed replaced by later welded types.

In the beginning, 850s had thin wheel centres, rivetted to the rim.
After they started breaking in competition the centres were made thicker, but they were still rivetted.
I think spot welding replaced the rivets somewhere around 1963.
I would NOT run tubeless tyres on rivetted rims, as they may not be airtight. Back then all tyres had tubes in.
