hi, i have a 1100 with extractors, alloy manifold, full exhaust system and k&n air filter. but i have a AAA needle in the carby now, but it seems to be running rich at idel but perfect up top. and suggestion on what needle i should get or a needle which i can machine to lean the carby out at idel. |

how to modify your mini sez: 1098+ modified 1098 head = red spring H6 or AN needle 1098+ modified 1098 head + semi-race cam+ extractor exhaust = red spring E3 or No.7 needle |

Spacey, those needles are the fixed type, the AAA is a swinging (ie spring loaded) one. I know you can convert the carb to take them (I like the fixed ones) but I've never done it. |

ahh yeah i have an E3 sitting here because i couldnt figure out how to change it. |

the carby has a floating needle and i also have a fixed dash-pot in my spare carby. which type should i use. where do you get the carby needles from. i got my last needles from www.aptfast.com great guys in the US. |

The floating ones all eventually wear the jet, the fixed ones don't (provided you centre the jet properly). SU Midel in Sydney have the best range of needles, or try www.karcraft.com.au

the standard needle is A.B.P try kim at midel in sydney and he will give you a alternative. are you sure that the jet is not worn? kev is right about wearing, but they are cheap to replace. |

My engine is similar but with a better cam, I run an AAE because I found the AAA was a bit rich. Most Mini shops can supply (http://classicmotoring.net.au/cmos/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=68_161) If you want to file down a needle, get one that is lean across the whole range. Probably not worth the effort on a reasonably standard engine. |
