Post subject:  Mini bucket seat
Has anyone ever welded extra bars or modified an existing mini seat into a bucket seat? I reckon it can be done, That way it can still be used using the original brackets and sliders

(c) you can buy bucket seats for the minis, a bit $$$$ but I'm pretty sure they just bolt in.

Cobra bucket seats in the UK come with brackets that fit in the original mounts and have a sliding mechanism. Here Revolution Racegear sell them too.

I heard when the works teams made their bucket seats they made them too narrow for the driver, then streched them out until the driver could just slide in. I don't know how much truth their is in it but it sounds like a good idea for a firm seat :wink: .

yeah i did it a while ago, looks ace and great support. much better then cobra classics. sports 850 is the new owner of the seat (and car)

you can buy the proper after market seat brackets and runners from "revolution race gear" for the early flip type that mount into the channel. Then you can fit any seat (to my knowledge) to them and they are legal.

there we go, thanks 1970miniK thats great. So just bars that og down on the side what about lowering, is the seating area still the same height? did u remove the rubber on the bottomor change that?

yep bars down the sides and galvanised sheet metal filling in the new sections (cobra are hollow)
i removed a bit of the base foam to give a deeper feel, not much though. i've had guys plently bigger then me in it and they said it was great too.
heaps of hip level support, not much more then standard on shoulders

That seat looks great. But I have to ask, besides looking all period 60s racing style, what is the point?

I have normal, but very comfy seats in my Mini, and when thrown around corners the passengers sometime go flying (although generally I drive alone anyways.) but the driver, me, doesn't have a problem. A good tight seat belt and a good grip on the steering wheel provides plenty of support.

My dad's Mini has Suzuki Swift (I think) slightly bucketed seats (modern sports seats) and besides looking out of place in a 70s car, makes no different at all, and the seats aren't as comfy as my seats.... Advantage..? Nil.

im guessing they are exactly the same as normal mini seats with bars down the sides, whats wrong with that, advantage nil, disadvantage nil
