G'day

Just moved to South Australia and am looking for a good/reliable mini mechanic for my 67 mini. Can anyone give me a heads up on who is the best in SA. Cheers.

Where abouts in SA do you live?

There are quite a few parts suppliers and mechanics.

Morris Mania
Blair Athol Auto Parts (Mini King)
Brickworx Racing
Minisport
Mini Tech Motors
Newport Motors

Maybe more? That's all I can think of for now.

Depends where you live I guess.

Also while you at it you may aswell join a Mini club. There are two in Adelaide (appart from a Morris car club and a Moke club).

Modified Mini Car Club of SA (AKA Hotbricks, but don't let the name fool you some of the owners are VERY into originality and historical stuff, it's a very mixed club) - which I'm a member of!

Mini Car Club of SA - I don't know a lot about this club, but they meet on a different night to Hotbricks so I guess you could try both!

Also, Mini's At The Mill is coming up soon, the big Mini show in SA, http://www.hotbricks.org.au then go to the Mill section.

Ok I think I've crapped on enough.

Minisport & Morris Mania both have a good reputation.

When i went to South Aus a couple of month ago i saw "skinhead" I think Adelaide is the last place in the world you will find those

I hear nothing but good things about Newport Motors. They dont offer much in aftermarket parts etc etc but they are really good mechanically.

I find he's expensive but he has all those hard-to-get bits. Particularly small stuff.

He also has a full set of Mini door keys and early ignition keys and key cutting facilties, although he doesnt do double sided keys, for later ignition unfortunately.

One of my friends works there.

Find a mechanic who you can trust and like. Thats the most important thing. Lots to choose from in Adelaide.

There are many mechanics about the place who will work on Mini's but probably don't stock the parts. I found this with Rhemac motors a few years back.

Matt's right though, find a bloke (or women - Not sexist! :) )you like and can trust. Also one close by is always handy too.

i've had work done at brickworx, minisport, morris mania, mini tech and newport..

they can all do any job you can think of on a mini, but they're fairly different :)

i dont have a single one i go to as my favourites are are pretty far away from my house, but i like to go to somewhere friendly and helpful and not just trying to take my money.

Brickworx specialises in everything for rover late model minis from japan/uk and imports, complies and sells them, they usually always have minis for sale.

Minitech is a garage that has a large stock of 2nd hand mini parts, they usually offer a quote before undertaking any work, and they work on non minis also.

Minisport carries the biggest selection of new aftermarket parts from england,
is the australian distributor of zeemax bodykits, minispares, and
They also always have a few minis for sale at any one time.

Newport was a leyland bmc dealership, but is now a spare parts and service for all bmc/leyland vehicles, while also they have a huge yard full of bmc leyland vehicles for wrecking and parts.
like tim said, they have a full set of keys and probably have OEM parts.

Mini king has a range of off the shelf parts and 2nd hand parts, and they do parts and servicing for other vehicles and minis.

Rhemac was also a leyland dealer,
i havent been there, but they do servicing, engine reconditioning and performance engine building including blueprinting etc, and they work on muscle cars and jap imports etc.

morris mania is a morris specialist and 2nd hand parts dealer dealing mainly in minis and mokes and morris minors, but also 1100's and other morris/bmc vehicles.

this is just my observations, and i may have left out some details, but yea.
