Hi there Novacastrians :D

My son Sheldon is booked in to go for his Licence Test on Tuesday, and the speedo cable in the Clubby has just broken :x (very rusty). I hope I can get one from Newcastle Mini Dismantlers on Monday (tomorrow) so I can fit it tomorrow night. My other car is an Auto so thats no good, and his brother dirves a TX3 4WD turbo laser (not sure if he can sit his test in that :?: )

If not, is there anyone in the Newcastle area that has a Clip On Clubman spedo cable that I can buy, beg, borrow etc for use on Tuesday.

Any help much appreciated.

Dicko.

Do you guys do the test in your own cars over there?

I did mine in an auto Toyota Crapolla Seca, which was my driving instructors car. We don't have auto or manual lisences herem a lisence is a lisence.

Yep you can do it in your own car. It saves a lot of money for the youngun's. They check lights wipers etc and do a walk around before they get in. This has just had its bluey done (only been registered for about 8 weeks) so all will be fine.

cant help with a speedo cable but he should be able to take the TX3 as the restrictions only apply to P platers. but you might want to ring the RTA to confirm.

Do the prohibited vehicle conditions affect learner drivers?

No. As learners can only drive under supervision, the conditions will not apply. A learner can attempt the driving test in a prohibited vehicle but is restricted from driving prohibited vehicles once a provisional licence is issued. Provisional licence holders are not allowed to drive prohibited vehicles, even if supervised.

if you cant get one in time he can do the test in the TX3

Yeah, just got to ask his brothers permission to use it.

He's going for it at Wyong too as he couldn't get in up here for another month. He's done lots of driving in the Wyong streets so shouldnt be a problem for him. As I'm working. his bro is driving him down for it too. Should all work out. Of course for reverse parking he'd love to do it in the Mini as its just so simple :D
