if a mechanical workshop dedicated to minis (connected to another workshop in the eastern suburbs of melbourne, same name but other side of town) opened up in the northern suburbs of melbourne would you..... (It maybe located around the sydney road fawkner campbellfield area, 5ish minutes off the western ring road) (PLEASE NOTE:- this in no way, shape or form, will be connected (if viable) to another workshop that is apparently located in the "northern suburbs" of melbourne!! |

There is definitely an opening since that took over the other northern business and now that Mini Maks have "retired". When you drive your Mini to work Mon-Fri, it's a pain having to get up at "sparrow-fart" on Saturdays to do any work in case you find you need and unexpected part and you then have to drive an hour or more to the East before they shut at lunch time. It used to be sooooooo convenient to be able to ring Max or Marg on a Sunday and if they were home just pop over and pick it up, or arrange to call in on the way home after work when all the other workshops would be closed. You're not thinking of making parts available after hours are you? |

the unfortunate thing about these polls is you're only allowed one choice. we have a great mini mechanic that I'd love to keep using for ever but, inevitably there will come a time when he's just not going to want to keep crawling over our cars. We have a local mechanic in town here that I would use for simple/emergancy repairs - like the stuffed valves this week, but, I wouldn't use him for complex "A" series stuff - he doesn't have the experience. So.... the long answer is I'd certainly be a starter for supporting a new business based so close to home but couldn't guarantee i'd be sending lots of work or spending lots of money. Just a thought though - any chance this new business might also look at body/paint repairs as I haven't got anyone for that and have 3 cars to be resprayed over the next year or so cheers Kevan |

I would be really good if the think open in the western part of Melbourne. We used to have a mini place in Geelong and it's now close down. I would love a place in Werrabie or Hoppers. Note that there is quite a lot of mini in Geelong. Please do it, i will be your first customer, as long as it not associated to one certain place ![]() |

what ever happened to just coming out with it.. ![]() Ok here it is almost straight..(no names will be mentioned)...I have been doing some work with another mini based business near lilydale for a while and have spoken to a few people that have come from this side of melbourne that dont want to deal with the large mini based business that is already established as a certain person has left a "VERY BAD impression and would like to have someone on the same side of town to deal with, hence me asking the question. Basically i want to know if it would be better to be a spare parts place, a workshop or both. The owner of the business prefers to do engines and gearboxes over service work and has a couple of really good and reliable machine shops that look after him very well (price wise). Also it gives me some flexiblity with working hours as i have a young family and my wife also has her own business and sometimes requires an extra person for help. Vicmini 13 at this point in time i will say yes i would be available during week nights and weekends as long as i dont have any family thing on. Rehab 1964 if i was a spray painter or panel beater i would say yes but as im not i have to say no i wont be doing that. Steve....no its not inregards to one business changing hands or another moving .....(im the "little red engine that could and did" and had 12 motors/gearboxes). Hows that cush make any sense to you now?? |

To answers your question, i think a good mini mechanics is needed west. As for parts you will find that most people like to deal with certain compagnies and are not likely to change, only my opinion |

others deal with certain companies because they have no choice. |

My standard practice was: - If I knew I needed quite a few things in advance, I'd order from Karcraft. - If it was an emergency or I only needed one or two things I would go to Mini Mac. - Sometimes I would buy a lot in one go from Mini Mac with a view to supporting him, as the prices often weren't that different. He was always helpful with advice too. Now there is no Mini-Mac, so I don't have a choice but to use Karcraft or spend a two hour round trip East on a Sat morning. But the flip side is since I no longer drive a Mini daily this is not so much of a problem. Yes, we need somewhere in the west. |

A Mini place in the west would get my vote, and my dollars.. if it were in the inner west I'd probably spend more time there than at home ![]() |
