Hi all. What do you used to clean all the disk brake part before you assemble them?

What do you need to clean off them , rust or oil and grime ? If it's oil and grime then "brakeclean" is good , it's an aerosol spray that cleans all sorts of stuff off them without leaving any residue . Not sure about rust though as it depends how much .

I just recieve them and the are cover with some black stuff. They look like the need a good clean up.

Where can i get this stuff

Not sure about the black stuff , are they new or second hand rotors ? Brakeclean is available at most auto part places like supercheap , autobarn , repco etc so it's easy to find , justs ee if you can find out what the rotors are coated in first in case it needs something special .

When you say rotor, you mean disk??? If it's the case they are all good, it's mostle the other bits that need a good clean

OK , I thought you meant the disc rotor itself rather than the rest of the brakes . Try a degreaser on them first but be careful around the pistons in the calipers as some degreasers can be harsh on the seals , and see how that cleans them .

Bonjour Louis. Try an old or soft toothbrush and some fresh brake fluid. Plug the holes in the calipers where the hoses go in before you do anything. You don't want any contaminants inside the caliper.

Internal brake parts exposed to brake fluid however get cleaned with methylated spirits.

stupid question what does the metho do to brake fluid (apart from taste nice with boot polish)

Well nothing actually Al, that's why you clean the bits using the metho. It doesn't react with the rubbers or the fluid.

However this comes from years ago when plastics would fall apart at the drop of a hat if exposed to the wrong stuff, I wonder if they are better now?

I cleaned some S calipers on the car once with degreaser, it swelled the dust seals and one popped out. So was not a great idea.
Soapy water and a toothbrush is safer.
