hey guys, im new to minis and Just got myself a 76 leyland 998. im looking at things to do too it, it needs fixing up I have started a few things, 1.5 inch carbie new fuel pump new starter motor. It had a cracked head, so thats off getting fixed, put a little bit bigger exhaust on the old girl and new battery. can anyone think of any good mods too do to her? Im reading a lot about superchargers are they easy to install? |

Welcome to Ausmini. Throw some photos up, it'd be great to see what your machine looks like. Plenty of guys around here with superchargers fitted, they usually build an engine to suit from the ground up. Tuned 998's are pretty sweet little animals, a 1275 is great for easy power, but a supercharger will make a nice add-on for either engine type. Hope to see you post lots and enjoy the forum |

Not to bad if you purchase a kit, there are a couple of enterprising companies who can provide a bolt on (more-or-less) complete kit. Some you provide your own supercharger, others have it included. Costs for the various kits range from 800 dollars up to 6000 or so not including your engine mods (pistons, head work if needed etc). Have a look through Mini & A/A+ Series Mods for some threads, or narrow it down with the search feature at the top of the page. |

plenty of information about supercharger kits on here if you do a bit of a search.. if you want an sc-12 your best bet is to look on the toyota forums. |

While the head is getting done upgrade it...port and pollish, convert to unleaded, bigger valves, double valve springs etc etc. Do as much as you can/afford, most of the power in an A series is in the head Yeah go for the SC I've done mine myself but it's not installed yet  at least with the kits you know they work well

you do realise its not quite as easy as bolting on a supercharger kit and driving off into the sunset? There is a good chance you will do harm to your motor or at the very least accelerate wear if it hasn't been built for that purpose in the first place? |

Mick told you costs range from $800 - $6000. That is solely for a kit and you would want to range something towards the middle of a bracket range of figures that anyone tells you. The key thing above was not including your engine mods where you should ideally rebuild your motor from scratch to suit forced induction. A carb, lower compression pistons, head work and a suitable cam are a start. You could just bolt on an $800 kit and it may work OK but don't complain when it blows up. |

and you'd need dyno time and possibly professional help installing the kit. i highly recommend doing it however! |
