Back when I was driving the Mini daily, it was a rare day when I didn't need to use the horn, what with our observant driver population. The problem I had, which became the reason the car stopped being the daily driver was that the horn made this pathetic little 'beep' noise, which translated into English meant 'please don't drive over the top of me, I'm small and feeble'. Now that I'm going to be driving the car again in city traffic, I want something which says 'GET THE F#(*@K OUT OF MY LANE, A##HOLE'. Something which leaves skidmarks on the inside of the other car, if you know what I mean. I know you can get el crappo aftermarket jobbies from Supercrap and Autobarn et al, but they're usually the cheap, shite, Chinese 'beep' variety. The Bini I used to have made a substantial two-tone noise when you leant on the horn, but I'm reluctant to fork over $110 for the part from BMW. What does everyone else do about this problem? |

The horn in a mini always reminded me of the first part of this advert.... http://www.unison.org.uk/video/video_panel.asp?did=4618 ... a bit of a feeble 'excuse me...please' rather than an "Oi - get the f*&^ out of my way" |

What you need is a fog horn. Something that encourages people to check their rear-view mirror for something carrier-class. |

I used to have a twin air horn on the car many moons ago, but it never, ever worked very well. It took time for the air pump to spool up (and time is one thing you don't have when you need the horn) and pumped out a pretty ordinary sound when it did get up to speed. Asthmatic is how I'd describe it. What got me thinking of going OEM-spare-part is that new cars tend to have pretty substantial horns (Ford are a notable exception here, theirs go 'beep' too), but I wanna know what everyone else does ![]() |

I vote for the triple air horn, or even a double. I have mine mounted up under the R/H Gaurd, nobody knows that it is there,.....unitl you hit the horn. No lag, instant LOUD piercing noise. Supercrap 25 dollar set, going strong for two years now. I shortened the compressor tube length to the trumpets to be as short as possible, this may have helped. I also have the original horn in place and a simple switch to swap between the two. Otherwise a early 80's Falcon dual tone horn is loud, have one on a clubman. Cheers m |

I agree with the triple air horn option, we've got them in both the minis and it does an extremely effective job in alerting people to your presence. My favourite was when a 4wd cut me off on the highway. I gave them a blast and I swear their head nearly went through the roof. Definitely left the kind of skid marks your after. |
