Post subject: | Weird hydro problem |
Gday all, I am experiencing a strange problem on my Mini K with the hydro. If I take off up a hill the front of the car sometimes comes right up and I think the back goes down. I know the front does come up a little bit and that is normal but this is a lot and it stays there until I brake or slow down quickly so the weight transfers to the front. It seems to be pivoting around the middle of the car from what I can tell in the car. Just wondering if anyone has come across this before. Could it be air in the system? Thanks. Steve. |

Really common on hydro cars as the systems get older the hydro restrictors don't seem to slow the flow down very well at all. An easy fix is to raid an old dry suspension mini for the top front shock mounts (four 7/16 AF bolts) and the top suspension arm bolts. Mount these onto your hydro car, the top mounts already has the holes on your car. The top arm will need to be drilled out to 3/8 of an inch to suit the new top arm bolts. Fit shocks to this and you will notice an vast improvement . |

You can also add some restrictors into the hydro lines between the front & the back (i fit them in the join/junction/connection of the front hydro bag hoses & the metal pipes & they basically consist of a small soft copper or brass washer with a hole in the middle) They slow down the fluid transfer from front to rear. Add those with a decent pair of "Double action" shocks at the front & it will help... sorry but it all only "Helps" stop the problem |

Thanks guys, Where is the original restrictor located? as I have a whole hydro setup out of another car that was ok. I also have a whole dry steup as well but i do like the hydro when it is working well. Thanks again. Steve. |

Steve; The restrictors are located in the bag itself. I will try and post a pic of a bag I cut open to see what was actually inside it, that will give you an idea. Cheers Chris |

You could try swapping the displacers with the others you have, they might not be so tired. A lot of work though. The shocker suggestion (as above) and some competition bump stops on the rear trailing arms would be worth trying first. |
