Hi all
Restoring a 67 deluxe & the indicators dont self cancel. Should they or was it not till later models?
if not fitted can later model indicator stalks be fitted?

Yep it should self cancel. You may find the lug on the steering column is in the wrong place, which results in the indicators cancelling at the wrong time. Other option is the lug isn't far enough out to push the stalk properly, it is usually adjustable.

I just developed a habit of always cancelling the indicators myself, it is easier than pulling the column off and repositioning it so that the cancelling lug is in the correct place.

<edit> Option number three is that the indicator stalk is mounted too high/low on the column and the cancelling lug is missing it completely.

My 65 deluxe has self cancelling indicators, The chrome stalk with the green lens. So Id guess that it should (and as anto suggest) probably just needs adjusting.

Mine didn't either thuth be told.
I got used to cancelling it myself.

take off the cover on teh steering column, theres a little metal thingado taht screws in and out with a nut to keep it from moving about..

Don't adjust it too far because I've heard that you can snap the little lugs off.

It has two "flipper" pieces that are joined with a small spring. When you take the covers off you should get the idea of how it is supposed to work. Half a can of wd-40 to free up the mechanism and I 'm betting the connecting spring is probably stretched. Not sure whether you can replace them but I just cut a few coils off mine and carefully bent the cut end to hook back into the 'flipper".
Do the screws up on the collar good and tight and away you go.

If the adjustable pin is missing the lugs on the switch you may need to move the column up or down. You can't move the switch up and down because it is located by a pin.
It is very easy to do.

The cancelling lug could be missing or in the wrong place. As you take the wheel back to atraight ahead it should trip the little flippwers and set the lever back to the centre.
If it is higher or lower than it needs to be to trip the cancelling flippers you can adjust it by loosening the clamp on the outer column and moving it up or down.
If it is out radially you should first check that the rack hasn't been set off centre by a poor wheel alignment. If the rack is off centre you will turn much tighter one way than the other. If it is out it can have cause bad bump steer (the inability to track straight over bumps).
The correct place for the lug is half way between the two cancelling levers on the blinker mechanism, usually at about 2 o'clock.
To adjust it radially:-
Make sure the wheels are pointing straight ahead.
Loosen the column clamp and take out the 1/4" unf bolt from the spline on the rack.
Pull the column off the spline, rotate it to the desired position and push it back on, replace bolt.
Take steering wheel off and reposition it to it's correct orientation.
