Post subject:  MK II S Rocker Cover Sticker

What is the correct original sticker for a 10/70 MK II S rocker cover - 'Morris' or 'Hot Run Tested'? I've seen both versions appear on restored cars.

Hot Run Tested.

But I think there's 2 versions, BMC & Leyland, so I'm guessing BMC for round noses and Leyland for Clubbies etc.

Gavin (and others),
Whilst talking to Mini King (John) today about rocker cover stickers he mentioned the outline of Australia and MOWOG symbol embossed into the top front of some rocker covers (near the oil filler hole). I note the photos in this thread and the other one on Engine Bay Photos do not show such a rocker cover but I've seen them elsewhere.
Does anyone know the history of the embossed rocker cover? Which car/cars was it originally fitted to?

John's selling an S rocker cover at the moment with an Oz outline embossed on the top on Ebay, but I was always under the impression that as the engines were sourced complete from the UK, they came with the UK lids. Unless at some stage they were changed to Australian sourced lids?

Did you get any idea of this from John, he's seen more S's than I've had hot dinners.

EDIT: Perhaps the Morris 1100S 1275 engines had the embossed rocker cover with no vent as they were fitted with the PCV attached to the primary gear housing breather.

Mick,
I emailed John and he said: "Hi, To the best of my knowedge they were fitted to the Mk2 and clubman GT, I am fairly sure they were not fitted to the Mk1."

I haven't ever seen the embossed rocker covers fitted to a Cooper S motor , not as per original anyways . ALL Cooper S powerplants were imported from England . The only alterations were removing the alloy engine number tag , and re-stamping the engine number into the block , they were then painted from the original English dark green to the Aussie light metallic green , rocker cover stickers fitted , and then fitted to the cars ..........I cant imagine all the rocker covers being changed over , it would have been quite a job ....may have been fitted to morris 1100 , as Mick says

Spoke to John again today (I won the bid on his eBay rocker cover) and, whilst he can't be absolutely certain he thinks the MK II S engines had their rocker cover replaced with the MOWOG embossed type. He can't remember exactly why but thought it might be to do with a different neck height for the breather-type cap. Maybe it was introduced for some cars and not others.
AJ - I've found a few pictures of restored MK II S's (drive.com, carsales.com) with the embossed cover but, of course, they may not be the originals. All these covers, including the one John auctioned, have the cutouts for extra stud and bolt so they must have been fitted to an S at some stage, unless the cutouts were made later. From memory the 1100 S engine did not have the extra stud/bolt.
I'm getting the impression there's no such thing as a 'standard' MK II S (and probably other Minis) since various changes were made during the life of manufacture, such as flush door handles, master cylinders and heaters. John remembers four heater types being fitted by the factory - the old tin MK I type at first, then the more common plastic type, and two others toward the end of model.
Based on comments in this thread and others we still don't have an agreed, precise description of the rocker cover and its stickers.
Thanks BMC/BL for making life interesting for we enthusiasts!

Doug , they were probably fitted to Clubman GT , as these had Cooper S motors . Can any GT owners confirm ??
