Post subject:  Fitting flares

Hi all,

I have a question regarding fitting flares. I need to fit some screw on flares to cater for the 10 x 5 inch wheels (not sure how the previous owner got passed rego).

I have the black plastic screw on types. I have the screws which will secure them.

Any ideas on the best method to install these?

Thinking of drilling the required holes, painting around the holes to try and protect against rust and then screwing in... but would the screws simply scrape the paint away within the newly drilled hole? Just very mindful of giving a starting point for rust.

you have'nt got much choice, I reckon drill a piolt hole and paint it like you said. Their is a lot of minis getting around with those flairs on em and I have'nt seen any with rust on the flairs.

if you don't want to drill into the panels, you can drill up under the part of the arch that sticks out from the fender...

then rivet or screw the flare to that... i'll hold nicely and you won't have to bog it up if you want to fit different wheels..

like i did.. ;)

Throw away the little black screws, they will rust the 1st time it rains.
Go to Bias Boating Warehouse or Whitworth's, take a screw with you and buy some S/S ones the same size. 8)
I drilled the holes, put a dab of grease on the screws and screwed them in. No body rust there in the last 10 years.

I put my flares on the same way.

Post subject:  No rust flare fixing

I done exactly what Doc said, except I dipped the screws on a tin of paint, that matched the car, screwed them in and hey presto, hole and screw matched the flare and the car colour, so now hopefully no rust in the future.

Davo...,
