Post subject:  Leaded Petrol in unleaded
Hey guys ive just replaced the cylinder head on my mini and chaged it from leaded to unleaded but i still have 1/3 off a tank of petrol left with the lead replacement stuff in it. Do i have to drain this out and if so where can u get rid of it? or can i just use it til it runs out then just fill up with unleaded? Thanks for any help

Just use it up normally - top the tank up with unleaded first. The lead replacement will coat the hardened seats and it will do more good than harm.

The petrol to use is the 98 RON premium unleaded fuel. Lotson here will tell you its not necessary but you will find the car will run better with it. The engines were originally designed for higher octance fuels.

As Al said - you could ceremoniously toss some on parliament house and light it to pay them back for costing us millions of dollars in excess fuel costs because they get the extra excise if fuel costs are high.

Did it cost a lot to change it over? Did you do any mods (I mean other than just the valve seats etc.) at the same time or stay the same? Cheers.

Um well i brought an unleaded head from a place in sydney for bout $700 last year for my other mini project as the old cylinder head was absolutly rooted. Then i didnt end up finishing it and moved to canberra. I brought another mini and am put it on my new one.

Yeh ive been driving it til about 2weeks ago so the petrol wouldnt be stale. but yeh i'll just fill it with high octane crap and yeh hopfully she'l be all good.

Premium 95 is crap now they've put ethanol in it. A couple of cents less perhaps, but less economy. It has less energy value than petrol. And ethanol eats old rubbers and plastics like in our cars' fuel systems.

unless ur in tassie,
we dont use ethanol in the fuel down here,
not at caltex anyway,
the premium has a special additive,
ethanol is too crap and not enough market for it

No mention on the BP website about their 95 containing ethanol, is it them you are referring to or another brand?

Both BP and Shell put it in now. Check the writing on the pumps. :wink:
