Post subject:  Question for Clubman GT Owners

A recent topic in Mini Chat called 'MK II S Rocker Cover Sticker' attempted to identify the correct original rocker cover and stickers for the MK II S to help those of us doing a restoration. It was pointed out that there are two types of non-vented rocker covers fitted to Cooper S motors - one with a MOWOG Australian map embossed in the top near the oil filler hole and the other without. Some members have original MK II S motors and they have the non-embossed cover so we are trying to understand the origin of the embossed cover. Was it fitted to none/some/all Clubman GT's which, of course, had a Cooper S motor.
Can any Clubman GT owners help?
Alternatively, was there a changeover point during MK II S production when the embossed one's were introduced?
Or some other explanation?

Lots of proof of GT's with embossed covers, I also have lots of pics of Mk2 S's most of which have British (non embossed covers)

Who knows?

Oh, wanna buy some S rims (cheap)

Graham,

Half an hour after you posted your response I bought a full set of rims, tyres, hub caps on eBay. So just a smidgeon too late.

Thanks for the update on the MOWOG cover. It's starting to look like plain on S and embossed on Clubman GT, with swaps being done inadvertently as engines were dismantled and rebuilt. But we all know the BMC factory changed all sorts of components during a model run, so unless there's someone out there that worked on the production line or has other first-hand knowledge we may never know.

All of my Clubman GTs over the years have had the embossed rocker cover. Probably to do with the required amount of local content required by the Aus Gov in new cars. I'm not sure why but would guess to minimise the amount of import duty / sales tax or something like that. Some one else should be able to answer that one.

The following was just posted on the MK II S Rocker Cover topic:

According to Larry at Mini Spares the MOWOG embossed rocker cover was fitted to the Clubman GT only. It replaced the plain imported one on the Cooper S type motor, apparently as a way of satisfying the Oz Government's requirements for local content in the automotive industry.
Larry believes that all MK II S's were fitted with plain rocker covers when they left the factory.
Another myth busted.
