A top bloke in NZ is collating the GT register, doing a great job!

I'm just 'putting it out there' to get anyone else to pass on their details of these increasingly rare clubbies!!

Just let Gavin know via his site! :P

Perfect timing Graham , I had just spent a fair bit of time yesterday tracking Gavin down to pass on photo's and directions to another GT I know of in New Zealand  :D

It's good to see people are collecting and keeping all this information as without them there is no official records readily availible .

Which is more rare, GT Clubmans or 997 Coopers??

Good question , similar numbers made I think (1500 GT's , 1200 997's ???) but probably more 997's made into cooper s's or destroyed on tracks .

From the info I have, there were nearly 4 times more Coopers built in Aus than GT's.

Strangely the majority of coopers were 997, 998 coopers are rarer in Aus! 8)

Graham,

That's bloody interesting........

One would think it would be the other way around.

So, if you were to guess at production numbers, and then numbers still on the road, what would they be for:

a) 997 Coopers
b) 998 Coopers
c) GT Clubmans

One would suspect that the GT Clubman might be the rarest of the rare!!

Cheers,
Tricky

Watto's got a feature in the next Mini Experience on the Coopers, something to look forward to!

I don't want to steal his thunder! Watto works extra hard to make these articles as accurate as they can be, given BMC / Leyland Aus lack of records!

Gavins GT register covers a span of about 1200 cars, the more people who pass on their details the better we can know the relative rarity of the various models.

How about LS's how many? where's Chris Zerial?

SS's, Sunshines? Sports 850's :? :P

60 wow. That makes them common :P

Aussie Mini Minors are still only three on Sports850s register, got to be THE rarest Aussie Mini by now - possibly not the most desirable i will concede.

and mine is no longer anywhere near standard....

cheers

Ahhh...New Plymouth. Great surfing! :D

This is an NZ/UK GT. Built here from CKD kits. These had 54hp standard 1275 motors, single 1.5" SU et., rather than the 72hp Aus model. They are reasonably common here.

I reckon that with 60 cars so far in 6 years of looking, there may be double that left making then v rare now. Can't see many more that surviving as they were apparently pillaged in the 70's for their 'S' bits. GT goes into garage and after an Extreme Makeover - botox, dental veneers etc., hey presto another one of the surviving 15000 Cooper S from the original 5000. :D
