Hello all, Hubby is thinking of selling Sophie, his Mini K with burstproof doors (one of 400 made) and he wants to know what shes worth. Her paint has been preserved under house paint and is camino gold (like the Cooper S's had). She has a 998 in it that runs, a bit smokey tho. ![]() ![]() ![]() Can you tell me what she would be worth? I dont want any smart ass comments just fair dinkum replies. Thanks Lynda |

The biggest thing against it is it's appearance , it's filthy and got house paint on it so people will have trouble seeing past that . Best bet would be to beg/borrow/buy a pressure cleaner and give it a good going over (engine bay as well) and then post some pic's . What's the body like apart from the paint (rust/dents ?) , how well does the motor run apart from smokey , how's the gearbox , some interior photo's would help too . As it sits in those photo's though I'd say you'd be scraping around the $500 mark but with a full clean and if it runs well then $1,000 maybe ? |

Can't tell you what she's worth, but: If the car was local and I wanted another project to start, I'd not pay more than $800 for that. Hope it helps. ![]() |

OK, I'm the kind of guy who was looking for a car like that. The real issue is that there is just such a hugh range of values for the shell. If it has "the usual rust" or "not too much rust for it's age" as most are advertised as then it will cost between $6,000 and $9,000 just to get the rust repaired properly and to have it painted. Repairs by the local mini expert at $50 to $90 per hour plus panels. If it genuinely has NO rust and is decently straight, it could cost as little as $2,000 to get it prepared and painted. Both these prices are for a cheap sand blast and an after-hours paint job at the local panel shop paid in cash. So, without looking at it, I reckon its worth no more money than the large number of project car shells that have sold on here for between $200 and $1,200. The doors add only a small amount to its value. If it is really orignal with zero rust, I would pay up to $4,000 for it. M |

I really don't want to sell this car but need to find some cash to pay for the new motor I have just had put in my Deluxe. Rust wise, there is no rust in this car, floors are ok and battery box is ok too. It was only running on 3 cylinders when I got it due to burnt valves, so I have put a 12G202 head on it. Basically thats as far as I have gone with it since I stored it in the shed. Drives perfect in all gears, no noises and brakes still work. Clutch works fine too. Front windscreen was smashed but I have a spare sitting inside the car. I have removed the speedo cluster but its also inside the car, I was about to pull everything out of it and clean it up, start fresh. Hydro is perfect, no dramas there. Don't really know what else to mention, oh there is a ding on one of the front panels and a busted headlight. I think I will follow your advice and give it a good clean and throw some new photos up. It does look different since those images as they were the day I inherited it. Inside has been cleaned right out. |

Hi I agree with the other guesstimates on value but would like to point out something. I don't believe that there were only 400 of these made. As you know I have been collecting numbers on these cars for a little while now. So far my investigations have led me to believe that the number was more like 2000. I currrently have numbers spanning from 12/70 to 6/71 that are 2058 apart. If anyone out there has or knows of more of these could you please send the car details to me to include on this list. Cheers Steve |

well beefa, for a good example i paid 6 grand for my mini K but mine had cooper discs installed, electric dizzy, electric fuel pump, cam. so u can work off that if u like, the body is in some what decent condition some rust spots here and there and the paint is still good. if u want u can base it off that but. i would pay if sophie has no rust, paint still good and is it good running order ( can be registered) i would pay around $4500-$5000 and maybe another $1000 more if theres disc brakes or some added extras |

i got my mini k, which looked like this (after about a months worth of work putting parts back together) for $500. i'd say the mini k you have would be worth upto $1000 if it didnt have rust. ![]() ![]() |

Sorry, the rocker cover has been sandblasted and colour coded to my new motor. ![]() First thing that was removed off the car. heh OK so I have a few things to think about then. Basically what you see in the photos is what i am planning to sell. Hopefully I can arrange something in the next week or so to finish paying for the motor and I'll keep it, if not, at least the next couple of weekends will give me a chance to get stuck into it and tidy it up a little more. cheers for the comments anyway guys, pays to get the right info before selling stuff like this. I can never tell what these things are worth. |

Use the right media and it will do a stirling job of polishing..walnut shell and plastic/glass bead spring to mind. I've got permission from the Minister for the purchase of a mini runaround ![]() Needs to be running and registrable however.. ![]() |
