Post subject: | Tightening Rear Window Latch |
Hopefully someone will know the answer for me. Is there some way to tighten the rear push out window's on a saloon? Mine are so loose that (if they are opened on a hot day) open and close by themselves depending whether I go around a left or right hand turn. Some times a bump in the road is enough to get the window to close by itself. How do I tighten the latch so that they stay open? Has anyone fixed this? Is it possible to fix this? |

One way- take the 2 screws out, put a couple of flat washers under the catch then put screws back in. A better way- buy some new window rubbers. ![]() |

Or is it the mounting screws that attach the lot to the body that are loose? |

![]() The window rubbers in it are only about 6 - 12months old and they still look like brand new. You know the bit you grab to open & close the window with, I think it is actually loose or the other two hinges where it actually hinges to get the window open & closed. What do you guys mean stick a bit of cardboard under it? Do you mean where it screws into the C-pillar? Currently that connection into the C-pillar is tight with no movement at all. <edit> Was just thinking I should make it clearer - I can shut the window and it will stay shut - no worries there. Just when I'm driving the window open and closes by itself. It's as if the hinges don't have enough friction in them to keep the window open. |

They are notorious for doing that. Mine will usually stay open up to about 120 and then they snap closed. The part to look at is the 'pin' part of the latch (that you grab to open and close) but to my knowledge they cannot be pulled apart. On my car I searched through the spare glass and found the ones with the least wear. |
