 Post subject: sub frame Q's

What are these 2 right angle lugs on the rear frames for? I'm very tempted to cut them off because I've never seen any use for them.

Also whats the easiest way to separate the suspension knuckle-trumpet-cones? I have 4 subframes worth of these units and their all stuck together :x

They're used for the handbrake cables to run through. They're pretty important if you plan on using a handbrake at any stage!

Oh oops, I was looking at the lump in the middle...

oops soz, yeh the right angly thingies outboards of that center lump...Weren't they used at the factory when putting the subframes in?

Two good reasons to leave them there

1. it will save you work
2. they are original

No idea what they are for though. Could be they were used in the assembly process at the factory and serve no purpose afterward.

As for separating trumpet from ball, with the spring/displacer removed you should be able to put a rod down inside the trumpet and tap the ball end out with a hammer. It's a long time since I have done one but I'm pretty sure they are like this.

It will just be stuck through years of being on there. The rubber cone has a metal inner. If you work a big screwdriver in between the two until you pick up the metal part (you should feel it) and work around the rim bit by bit. It will come off unharmed if you are patient and don't lever on the rubber part.
