Post subject:  Smiths rpm guage....what's it worth??

Hey all,
clearing out some mini parts that i have left, found this smiths rpm guage the 10,000rpm type. As far as i kno it worked when we took it off the car, then went MIA so never got to put it bak in. Only a little scratch on the glass (can see in pic across the "100") otherwise in really good condition.

so the question is what is it worth??

thanks
Rodney.

tru! the back of mine is in alot better condition than that one, my glass is the same as that, except for that one little scratch, its only a light scratch so ill do some polishing of it and see how it goes.

Not an inductive type? Looks a little later than the usual old tachos.

The 8000 RPM tachos go for around 60 to 100 in unknown or working condition, the 10,000 will go for more but there is a ceiling as you can get brand new instruments for not a lot more out of the UK..and they will be accurate for a change. They do have a different font on the numbers however.

Yeah that's the go, at least they'll be accurate!

The one I picked up recently is very early 60's and has the really fine font for the letters. Very very fine script.
I was told it came from some famous old peugeot that won some old around Australia bash in the early 60's. :o

Yeah well, it was one old pug's eccentric owner spinning the yarn...

I likey the tacho however. Working, reasonably accurate and 50 bucks. No redline needle however (must have fallen out or somfink), but my ears and sense of mechanical sympathy will tell me I'm revving too hard..

Mick,
Yours doesn't seem to have a slot across the head of the spindle so perhaps it's a model that wasn't fitted with a redline needle.

Early ones from the 60s never had the redline.

Cool, that little mystery solved....

I like it however, smiths tachos seem to suit minis.

I've got the same one Mick, in a polished ally housing. No redline either.
