I connected mine up straight to the terminal block.
safest way to connect anything powerful is to use a relay. I'd suggest that for your reversing light also.

I'm going to connect 4 driving lights (100W) - should the relay input (30) be connected at the solenoid like the head lights or can I connect them at the fusebox since I'm using a relay? What about a rear/reversing light works style (Lucas), what is the usual connection? Does it need a relay? Do you people think that 4 large chrome driving lights on the grille plus smal eliptical fog lights under the bumper plus a lucas chrome rear light are too much shiny stuff on a road going car? |

If you want it to be safe and legal, take a power wire from the high beam back up to the dash for a switch, then back down to the spotlight relay. That way yer spotties can only come on high beam, and have a seperate switch |

My driving lights are hooked up thru a relay and thru the high beam with a seperate switch on the dash. I usually drive with the lights on high beam all the time anyway as they arent that bright  .
My reverse light (50w) is hooked stright up to the light switch and thru its own on off switch. You can only turn it on once the headlights are on. It also comes in handy at night for blinding dickheads who are tailgating

The lights are driving lights not spots (wide beam and not narrow?) so dont need to be wired to the high beam as far as I know. I know I gotta connect them via a relay what I was wondering is whether the power should be taken at the fusebox or the solenoid? My setup will be a separate switch panel (spent 5 hours making and polishing one) all with classic flick switches with a flash switch for the reverse light (for dickheads in Hold's Rodeos) a switch for the fog light, a switch for two driving lights and another switch for the other two driving lights with on one way and flash the other way. All of these will be ighition dependent (ie forgetting to turn them off when leaving the car wouldnt run the battery flat) though I might make the flashes independent from ign. And not dependent on the headlights in any way This should be legal as the lights are all wide beam ---- IS IT LEGAL? |

PhildoD - I always go out of my way to run ground wires to switches rather than power wires - as it reduces the chance of short circuits. |

I once checked what was the biggest battery that'd fit a mini and I think its the Pegeuot 306 one. |

With You putting on all those light I think you will req a Bigger alternator as ther is about 33 Amps in the driving lights alone plus the about 10 on a 55 watt Head lamp that is a total of43 Amps and a standard Mini alternator will not keep the battery Charge as the Current draw is greater then the supply. |
