Send a PM to TheMiniMan (aka Matt Read), he can probably help you.

Make your own pump! it is quite easy, and will come in VERY handy in the future.

If you want to get it done, find your local mini specialist and give them a call, check the list of mini specialists in the "how to" section or come along to the MOCQ club meeting on Tuesday, plenty of people to recommend a place, i'll have my pump in the boot to show you if you like.

Cheers
M

Perhaps you'd like to contribute a howto? ;)

I made mine by following a how to from an american site. I can work on that though. Give me a week or so, I'll take some pics.

Yes i have a hydro pump & can easilly pump it up for you & yes you can make your own pump out of a Brake or clutch master cylinder & make up a braketry stand type thing to hold it all & then make up a lever assembly to pump it with & then source, buy & add a hi pressure hose & valve assembly & a pressure Guage & then source & buy a special fitting for the hose to clip onto the car etc etc etc

& After all that... you may find you might actually get to use it once or twice in the life of your mini,,, oh heck maybe even 3 times if you`re unlucky :-)

If you are going to have people in the back seat regularly it might be a good idea to ask Matt if he has some competition bump stops when you get a pump up

Ok, no pics for now but here is the gist of it:
1) Supercheap grease gun, lever style, around $20, you can get the smaller one, and mine is chrome for the extra bling :D Bin the spring & plunger.

2) Grease gun flexible hose, you'll want a 30cm or longer one. Even a cheapie is rated to several thousand PSI, so will handle what we use (several hundred) with ease.

3) The fitting, called a GAS CHUCK from Parker. Will definately post pics of this next week when i have a camera. cost me about $80. It allows you to screw onto the schreader valve fitting without having to rotate the hose, and then you can release the pressure as slow or fast as you like with the special tap in the end of it.

4) Get an adapter made (i got the radiator place to silver solder two nuts together, one for each different thread type) for the grease gun flexi hose to the gas chuck.

5) Pump

6) Throw it in the toolbox in the boot (hence the small grease gun is probably best), best $120 i ever spent.

7) can be used by one person, no spinning of whole unit to attach (the magic of the gas chuck) so you can fill it up as you go. Can detach one handed, and keep fluid in it ready for the other side.

Edit: Use plumbers teflon tape on all joins! Forgot to mention that!

easy, and will save you $$ in the long run!!

Matt68,
where did you get the gas chuck? I've tried several hydraulic places, Pertek etc and their eyes just glaze over and I get some very strange looks when I try to explain what it actually is.
Anybody know where you can buy one in Melbourne? I've got a picture of the gas chuck from the US site but I guess I'll have to take it with me next time I get enthused enough to start looking again.

That fitting is also used to add water to rear tyres on tractors. Try yer local? tractor emporium.

The valve you want is the type used for putting water into tractor tyres it has a bleeder valve so you can expell any air (about $30). Call your local tyre company and get their Rep's name and number and he'll get one to you. I got the 2 brass reducers from Autopro (about $3 & $4). Use plumbers tephlon tape on all joints otherwise it'll leak.

This is what it looks like and works a treat :D

Remembered this from earlier in the year. I built one like this and works a treat.

miniDave, TimB, that is gold. That needs to go straight to the HowTo section -- do not pass go, do collect $200 :D
