Post subject:  Help with Tyres Please (Last call for changes)
Hey guys,

I just need some help with tyres. I would only like to hear from the people who ACTUALLY have these tyres and who HAVE driven on them if possible.

I'm currently putting a table together that sums up all the different tyres availible for Mini's (Mad Mk 1 you are out on your own with 14's :P :D ).

I have searched and cannot find definitive answers to my questions.

Can you guys please post definitive answers to the bits that have "?????" next to it. Also please bear in mind that people's opionion of grip levels vary BUT I have taken a general consensus (and also used my own judgement) to rate some of these.

You never know, this might even be made into a sticky for easy reference.

Great idea!! I'd second the sticky/howto proposal 8)

I'd agree with the Falken FK07E assessment, poor grip all round but they do last forever.

(PS: It's 'phenomenal', not 'phenominal' ;) )

I'd lean towards average, for the Falken's in the dry (FK07E), and yes I drive a Mini which has a set on it, every day.

I still have a full set of SF226s on the clubbie (from purchase), but don't have anything else (other than Falkens) to compare them to grip wise.. although I certainly agree that they're terrible in the wet.

I can't take credit for the sticky idea - Poeee suggested it. But I came up with the idea of the table (PM me if you are wondering why I decided to do it)

Thanks henry, I never thought of that (it all starts to look right after a while) a set of fresh eyes definitely helps. Is the A539 the only ones that aren't avail. here any more? Anyone?

This is where everyone's judgement is different, my car used to have Falkens and I thought they were s**t (so that has something to do with the rating :P ) but I have changed it to say Poor -> Average. Maybe I'm spoilt because I have 32R's now? 8)

Anyway - thanks for all your comments everyone, I have implemented all of them, please keep the discussion going if there is anything else that should be included & excluded.

SF226 are not bad in the dry, but are pretty bad in the wet. I'd rate them average and poor.:wink:
I agree with the Falken FK07E assessment in the wet, but dry they are not that bad. :lol:

I think they also make the Dunlop SP Sport R7 in a 165/70/R10 and a 165/55/R12

Thanks for that - I have added them too (I'm assuming that because they are a race compound that they are comparable to the other semi slicks etc - please correct me if I'm wrong anyone.

Can someone that has Hoosier Race Slicks please post details about them

I got a PM (thanks for the idea :wink: ) before from a member asking weather it should just be road tyres or not, so I've decided to do them all and include them. If the details about them could match up with the columns that I have in my table that would be great. Thanks.

Not trying to be picky but I can't really read the bright colours but maybe its just my monitor...
apart from that its awesome :) and I would say the bridgestones grip in wet is poor and require "careful" use of the accelerator :wink:

I disagree with the 'cheap and nasty' rating on the kumho powerstars. I understand that they are definitely not the best tyre but they are cheap, offer relatively good performance for a daily car, last for ages and fit standard rims perfectly.

We have been running the kumho's on our minis both on the road and for motorsport events (motorkhana, hillclimb etc) and definitely have not been disgraced or let down by the kumho's. In terms of value for money I think they are a great tyre.

Cheap maybe, but not nasty

I'll get a poll happening and see what everyone says. I (and the person I got it off) thought that it would make it easy to see at a glance which tyres were in which category.

That's cool - you are entitled to an opionion, I'll change it as I have never driven with these on so I was making assumptions from the price.
