Way off I'm affraid , as cush said it was the practice at one stage to graft a full ford 4 cylinder engine onto a mini gearbox so you've possibly seen pictures of that head in a mini race car but it wasn't on a mini motor .

That head goes on a Ford Cortina 1500/1600. Can see how that would go on an A-series block

No way a Lotus head will go on an A series. The Ford block is much longer. I have seen the Lotus engine on a highly modified Mini gearbox. Can't see how the box would take the torque of that engine though.

I have seen BMW K1 motor bike twin cam head put on a Mini block.

I think it was "Manx" engineering in England (amongst many others) who used to sell the conversion kit to fit the ford engine onto the mini gearbox & yes, they did fit the Lotus head to the ford motor & onto the mini gearbox

Back in the day it was pretty dam good thing, just threy`re getting very hard to find these days & with other more simple & more efficient & less costly twin cam 16v cyl head conversions around, well, it almost makes the lotus conversion old hat.

The BMW Kseries motorbike twin cam 16valve cyl head conversion is the one to have at the moment :-)

Eric Smith grafted a B.D.A. twin cam head onto a "A" series eng. block that was cast and machined with liners. The eng block was made by Gordon Allen. The eng cap was 1300c.c and produced 170 h.p and reved to 10,000 r.p.m.
Re. Mini the racing story page150.
Bill Needham did a 1000 c.c mini eng with ford twin cam head in 1967.
Re. page158
When I was working for Frazer engineering in 1974 I grafted a 1600 B.D.A onto a mini g/box. We machined a billet steel crank to fit ford eng and mate with drop gears. the eng was fitted into a mini street/ race car owned by Colin Trengrove. The mini boxes could not take the power until the eng was dry sumped and the box ran gear oil. Even then he blew up plenty.
The last I knew of the eng. Greg McEwin was going to fit into one of his minis.

I've posted this before, but here it is again. Think I've given myself a heads up.
Car is apparently hidden in a shed somewhere in Vic

I've just returned from the 50th anniversary of Teretonga racetrack jn Southland, NZ. There was a Mini there with a 1500 Lotus grafted to a Mini gearbox. I have some photos of it on my camera and I will download them tomorrow.
