my car has been sitting for over 2 months.

i drove it today and the fuel and temp gauge aren't working.
i checked the points and they are fine, i am wondering if there is corrosion on the electrical circiuts behind the instruments from when i had to use a powder fire extingquisher.

how hard is it to pull out the 2 gauges?
any other ideas as to why they wouldn't work?
what should i do?

Do you think perhaps that the reason you had to use the fire extinguisher in the first place might have anything to do with the gauges not working?

I believe both those gauges use a 10V supply from the voltage regulator, so if they both stop working at the same time it is most likely to be your voltage regulator. If yours is still original it will be a little boxy thing on the back of the speedo, the easy way to check is find the wire that goes to the fuel gauge from the back of this and measure the voltage that it has, if its less than around 10 then its probably that.

Or else you could have a dodgy ground...

Hope this helps

i thinkmy speedo stopped working and had no idea what was wrong with it . saw my mini mate and suggested to regulator, swapped it over and was fixed. So try swapping the regulartor with one from another set of clocks.
if that dont work id say bad connection from powder fire extinguisher - give it a good clean

there easy to pull out just a few screws hold them in
