Post subject: | Alternator Question |
I have with me what i believe is an 17ACR alternator that i took off my 1275, i say i belive only cause there is a tag on the outside of it but it looks very similar to the other one i have which is supposed to be the original one. What is the original alternator? I bought a replacement some time ago, which i think is a 16ACR? Time to get another one, Which one should i recondition?? Thanks in Advance |

A number of mini outlets sell a 75 amp hour bolt on alternator and as well that there are other make alternators that can be made to fit. The original alternator is a 35 amp hour that just doesn't provide enough power to modern equipement (h4 lights, stereos not to mention laptops and DVD players - all modern essential equipement. Unless you need absolute originality check with any of the mini suppliers. Reco'ing your existing 35 amp hour will be about the same price as an upgrade. Mike |

Ok so i should reco the 17ACR cause it has a higher amp output? Any possible problems by using this Alternator? |

I have changed my alternator and i now use a EA Falcon alternator it is 85 Amps best mod ever. ![]() Steve |

I'm pretty sure they would be rated at amps not amp hours... eg. they nominally put out 75amps of current constantly, this is a lot of current A battery on the other hand is rated in amp hours eg. a 1 amp hour battery can provide 1 amp for an hour So a 75 amp alternator will put out probably an average of 30 amps under normal driving conditions. To get watts, you go volts times amps, or 12x30 = 360Watts so you should be able to run around 300 watts of equipment without leaving your battery uncharged... But I am no electric engineer ![]() |
