Post subject:  ARP Head 11 Stud kit....

Just fitting new ARP Head studs as I put the Nb engine back together.

I've got a bodgy set of parts....

4 Main Stud nuts and 11 Rocker Stud nuts !!! (eg numbers required back to front)

The other thing is all the Rocker studs are the same short stud length.... usually 2 are longer for the rocker cover nuts.

Is this normal in an ARP kit or another stuff up in parts supplied ?

Doesn't sound normal to me.

Bear in mind that the standard rocker cover studs available new are high tensile, so you can always buy two of the longer ones separately.

Definitely sounds like an error in supply, though it is pretty unusual, I have found ARP to be pretty good.

The two rocker cover nuts don't attach to the head studs. They attach to the smaller (5/16" I think !) studs the screw into the head.
You do seem to have an arse-about kit though when it comes to the number of nuts. I'm sure they'll replace them for you, but it's a bloody nuisance none-the-less.

did they come all in one heat shrink pack with ARP on the cardboard or were they loose parts?

Mine were the former so from ARP factory, no interruptions from the importer.

I have heard of instances of the ARP importer (no names) opening sets like that to get out an individual part for someone and leaving the rest on the shelf, and then getting it wrong when someone wants a full set, as they try to cobble all the part sets they hold into a complete one. This occurred with incorrect rings shipping with a piston+ring set. If you had loose parts, then I bet this is what happened.

You should get on to your supplier and get them to sort it out straight away at no cost to you.

Thanks...

Intend to check with supplier about the nuts
.... came in ARP box but not shrink wrapped just sticky tape keeping closed... studs were loose in box and nuts / washers in seperate little plastic bags (but just stapled)...

- and yep is the studs that screw into the head were what I was querying....

EdIt - Brain fade - was shrink wrapped just removed at shop to check what was in the kit...

all the ARP rocker studs are the same length (cheaper to manufacture that way) but all are long enough for the rocker cover bolts to grab hold of.......

Thanks for the info
- and yep have confirmed rocker nuts do reach the "shorter" studs - so all OK on that front....

So engine almost all back together now (using old nuts for now)... and looking flash in "Alpine Green" .. but still heaps to do yet... getting into "fiddly little jobs"

Cheers
Ken
