I bought a set of mini rims with a few nicks and imperfections. I'm looking at getting my rims sand blastered then repainted. Is it a good idea? Has anyone had their wheels blasted and what finish did you get? Any problems with blasting? Also whats a reasonable price to pay to get a wheel blastered? Also does anyone have any before and after pics? |

I've had two sets of wheels soda blasted then powdercoated, sandblasting is a better abrasive (especially if you want to remove rust from the wheels). Do a search on "blasted" and you'll find heaps of pics. When I called around prices varied dramatically, I think anything up to $30 per wheel is reasonable. |

I have taken 2 minis to Andrew at THE BLAST FACTORY nth coburg 93548021 he has done good work for me, he will not do painting so you would have to go to another place for that,plenty of powder coaters around mini regards peter. |

Thanks for the replies. I am still wondering if I should paint the wheels with 2 pack or powdercoat them. What do you guys think? |

I was in the same predicament with my Enkei's for 4 Paw. After talking to a lot of people, many who were spray painters who said that the powder coating chips off around the bolt holes when they tighten the nuts up, I decided on powdercoating - its what they do on rally wheels, and look at the abuse they cop!! |

They're right, it does that. I powdercoated a bike frame years ago, and it all broke and chipped away where the axle nuts gripped the frame. It also doesn't take impacts very well, chipping easily. I would imagine wheels would pick up stone chips pretty easily... Then again, there's almost nothing to your Enkei's, so they're a hard target to hit

I had original cooper s rims repaired, blasted, primed and painted in original colour code and paint type (not 2pak) at Neway Wheels in Heidelberg heights near northern mini parts. It cost $125- a rim I think but they did an excellent job. |

Are you talking about Alloy Wheels or Steal....I had Alloys Bead Blasted ...sorry don't have pic's but they came up great..but the Gutter rash is best machine off after, also get the inside edge cleaned up saves loosing preasure with the tyre. Steal wheels will do good with eather Soda, Bead or sand blasting but I would eather Chrome or Paint but not Powder Coat |

Surely for that price you could get it done interstate and truck it home, still with change... It all depends on how much damage there is, and what you want done. Sand blasing is very coarse, bead blasting a bit kinder to the metal (good for alloy, etc), but soda basting is the 'new' thing, it seems to be big in the classic car restoration scene these days. |
